Victoria Soames Samek is Artistic Director of Clarinet and Saxophone Classics, which was founded in 1992 as the first CD label dedicated to specific instruments, and with the primary purpose of providing a focus for the clarinet in all its richness and diversity; to be enjoyed by enthusiasts, students, performers and listeners alike.
While Clarinet Classics was quick to include saxophone recordings in its early catalogue, in 2008 Saxophone Classics was launched, feeling that the saxophone deserved its own dedicated label as the saxophone catalogue started to expand. Most recently the decision was taken to combine the labels feeling that both instruments actually belonged together under the combined label Clarinet & Saxophone Classics
Through carefully chosen programmes supported by informative booklets and most recently multimedia, the label brings together the very best in world premiere and contemporary recordings, central repertoire and period performance. Also important within the catalogue are the extensive historical recordings of 78s and LPs remastered with care and skill, ensuring that the legacy of these first recordings of the great clarinet and saxophone players of the past are preserved and enjoyed by future generations.
In an ever expanding catalogue, Clarinet and Saxophone Classics has recordings from over 30 clarinet and saxophone players worldwide showcasing them in varied programmes of accessible, specialist and wide-ranging music; all beautifully recorded to the highest standard with supporting material which gives an insight into the player and their chosen repertoire.
“Clarinet & Saxophone Classis is an exciting and innovative concept, which I hope will continue to reflect and serve the enthusiasm we all have for the delights and wonders of single reed.”
